Teenage Anxiety.
When everything feels like too much for them.
Therapy for teens who overthink, worry, and feel overwhelmed by the pressure to get everything right.
Being a teenager is a lot to navigate. School, friendships, family expectations, social media, figuring out who you are, and wondering what comes next can feel like a lot to carry.
For some teens, those pressures become difficult to switch off.
Maybe your teen worries about everything, avoids situations that make them uncomfortable, or puts enormous pressure on themselves to succeed. Maybe they seem fine at school but fall apart at home. Or perhaps they've become withdrawn, irritable, or increasingly reluctant to try things they once enjoyed.
At Dawn Therapy & Wellness Centre, we help teens and young adults understand their anxiety, build confidence, and develop practical ways to handle life's challenges.
We won't expect them to have everything figured out before they walk through the door.
We'll start wherever they are.
What might be underneath Anxiety?
Sometimes, there's more to the story.
Anxiety doesn't always come from one obvious event.
Sometimes it develops gradually as expectations increase, friendships become more complicated, or a young person starts thinking more seriously about their future.
For other teens, anxiety may be connected to perfectionism, low confidence, difficult experiences, family stress, or feeling as though they don't quite fit in.
We take the time to understand the bigger picture.
Rather than focusing only on the anxious thoughts or behaviours you can see, we work with your teen to explore what's contributing to their stress and what might help them move forward.
That might mean understanding why making mistakes feels so uncomfortable, working through worries about social situations, or figuring out how to manage pressure without feeling like everything is riding on the outcome.
We don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Your teen is an individual, and their support should reflect that.
Our Approach
Practical tools. Honest conversations. Progress at their pace.
We know that not every teenager is going to be excited about therapy.
Some may be worried about talking to a stranger. Others might not understand why their parents think they need help. Some may know something feels wrong but have absolutely no idea how to explain it. That's okay.
At Dawn, therapy isn't about forcing someone to talk about feelings for an hour or telling them to think positively.
It's about building trust, understanding what's happening, and finding strategies that work in real life.
Depending on your teen's needs, we may work on:
Breaking the overthinking cycle
Learning to recognize unhelpful thought patterns and respond to worries differently.
Building confidence around uncertainty
Practising ways to handle situations where there's no guarantee that everything will go perfectly.
Managing perfectionism
Exploring the pressure to get everything right and developing a healthier relationship with mistakes and expectations.
Navigating friendships and social situations
Working through worries about fitting in, being judged, or communicating with others.
Managing overwhelming emotions
Understanding how anxiety and frustration can build up and learning strategies to respond more effectively.
Taking manageable steps forward
Identifying practical, realistic ways to approach situations that feel difficult, rather than letting avoidance make life smaller.
The goal isn't to eliminate every uncomfortable feeling. It's to help your teen feel more capable of handling those feelings without having them dictate every decision.
A message to parents:
You're worried about them. They're tired of being worried about.
Watching your child struggle with anxiety can leave you feeling unsure of what to do.
You might find yourself offering reassurance, trying to solve the problem, or encouraging them to push through something that feels difficult.
And sometimes, despite everyone's best efforts, the same worries keep coming back.
That doesn't mean you're doing something wrong.
Sometimes young people need support from someone outside the family to help them make sense of what they're experiencing and practise new ways of responding.
Therapy can give your teen a space of their own while also helping parents better understand how to support them at home, where appropriate.
You don't have to have all the answers before reaching out.
Sometimes, the first step is simply talking through what you've been noticing.
Parent FAQ:
How do I know if my teenager needs therapy for anxiety?
If worry is affecting your teen's sleep, relationships, schoolwork, confidence, or ability to participate in everyday activities, therapy may be helpful. You don't need to wait until things become unmanageable to explore support.
What if my teen doesn't want to attend therapy?
It's common for teens to feel hesitant. We aim to create a space that feels comfortable and collaborative, without pressure to share everything immediately. An initial conversation can also help you explore whether our approach might suit your teen.
Can therapy help with school anxiety and perfectionism?
Therapy can help teens understand the thoughts and expectations contributing to their stress, build coping strategies, and practise responding to challenges in more manageable ways.
