About Dawn

Real support.

Rooted in community.

Focused on connection.

At Dawn Therapy & Wellness Centre, we believe in showing up as our full, human selves—and making space for others to do the same. We offer psychotherapy that’s approachable, honest, and grounded in relationships. No stuffy office vibes, no therapist clichés—just a down-to-earth space to feel heard, seen, and supported.

We specialize in working with youth, families, and especially boys and young men who may not feel like traditional therapy is for them. Our approach is shaped by personal experience, cultural connection, and a belief in the power of storytelling to create change.

Why We’re Called “Dawn”

The name “Dawn” honours the life and memory of Jesse’s late mother, Susan Dawn Ingersoll (1964–2022). It also represents new beginnings, the promise of light after darkness, and our commitment to walking with clients as they find a way forward.

Hi, I’m Jesse

Founder, Clinic Owners & Director of Dawn Therapy and Wellness | Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) | Member of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation

I’m a therapist who works mostly with boys and young men who are struggling with anger, identity, anxiety, or just finding their way in the world—because I’ve been there too.

As a teenager, I felt stuck and lost. I didn’t know how to talk about what was going on inside, and I didn’t really feel like anyone saw it anyway. What changed things for me was having someone show up—without judgment, without pretending—to really listen. That moment shaped everything about how I approach this work.

My background includes a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, and undergraduate degrees in both Psychology and English Literature from Trent University. That literature background still influences how I work—I help people look at their stories with new eyes, unpack the meaning underneath the surface, and imagine what could come next.

In therapy, I use a mix of CBT, narrative therapy, psychodynamic approaches, and strengths-based work. That means we’ll explore what’s going on below the surface, but also work on real-life tools to manage things like anxiety, stress, ADHD, or emotional outbursts. I work with youth, adolescents, and adults. Whether you’re a teen navigating a hard season or a parent looking for support for your son, I’ll meet you with honesty, empathy, and respect.

When I’m not working, you can usually find me:

  • Walking with our two massive dogs, Ghost and Mia

  • Hanging out with my wife Hailey (who’s currently on leave from the practice)

  • Practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

  • Playing music or being outside as much as I can

Dawn Therapy & Wellness was built from the belief that people—especially boys and young men—need spaces where they can be supported without being fixed. I’m proud to help create that space, and to walk alongside the people who show up in it.

Hi, I’m Hailey

Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist, and Co-Director of Dawn Therapy & Wellness
(Currently on leave)

I’m a therapist who’s passionate about supporting kids, teens, and families through the messy, emotional parts of life. Right now, I’m on leave from client work, but I’m still involved in the clinic behind the scenes—helping with coordination, support, and big-picture care.

I’ve spent years working with children, teens, and young adults navigating anxiety, trauma and PTSD, self-harm, peer relationships, and family stress—and I’ve always believed in showing up with equal parts empathy and practicality. I’m a big believer in strategies that actually work in the real world, not just in a therapy office.

In sessions, I use a mix of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy, and trauma-informed approaches, but more than anything, I focus on creating a space where young people feel heard—really heard.

When I’m not working (or running things quietly behind the scenes), you can usually find me:

  • Crafting or making something with my hands

  • Taking long walks with Ghost and Mia, our giant Great Pyrenees

  • Baking something sweet

  • Recharging in nature or hanging out with my husband, Jesse (yes, the other half of Dawn Therapy)

Even though I’m not currently seeing clients, I still care deeply about this work—and about the families who walk through our (virtual and real-life) doors. Dawn Therapy exists because we believe in offering support that’s grounded, compassionate, and real. I’m proud to help make that happen, even from the background.

Indigenous Values & Culturally Informed Care

Dawn Therapy & Wellness Centre is Indigenous-owned and located on the territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation. We are committed to providing accessible, culturally safe mental health care—especially for youth and families who may not feel represented or understood in traditional spaces.

We want Indigenous youth to know: you belong here. And yes—if you have status, you likely have full coverage for mental health services.

We can help you figure that out.

Our Values

Realness

Come as you are. You don’t need to “perform” here.

Connection

Healing is a shared process—between therapist and client, and among families and cultures.

Purpose

We’re here to help you figure out what’s next—not just process what’s behind you.
